Honestly. Do you drink, take drugs then drive cars? Part5

If you believe you have a problem with substance addiction community.gov.au may be the first place to visit online, when you are ready to help yourself. The other site, which I want to recommend, is reachout.com.au where I found many emergency drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres listed in the ‘random’ and ‘popular’ listings. When you believe you are ready to get serious about your habit and ready to drive again then log on to OzFreeonline.com and start browsing their free car listings for your next car.

Drunk driving is a major contributor to road fatalities in Victoria. In 2003, a total of 31% of drivers killed in Victoria tested positive to drugs other than alcohol. Many drivers appear unaware of the effects that drugs can have on their alertness, watchfulness, and ability to react rapidly to unexpected events. Some drugs can also increase the impairing effects of alcohol and fatigue. Though cars nowadays are equipped with safety features, this are still not available to some used automobiles on the road.

Research shows that a driver who has recently consumed THC (the active component in cannabis) or methamphetamines (speed) is at the same risk of having a crash as a driver with a BAC above 0.05. Random roadside saliva tests will detect the presence of THC (the active component in cannabis) and methamphetamine (speed), also known as ice or crystal meth.

While saliva testing will not be used to detect illicit drugs other than THC (the active component in cannabis) and methamphetamines (speed), current drug impaired driving laws will continue to be used to detect drivers impaired by other illicit drugs, such a heroin.

Drivers will not be permitted to drive immediately after positive roadside saliva test. Drivers may choose to wait at the roadside until an illicit drug is no longer present. Alternatively, they can leave and return to collect their vehicle at a time, which will be advised by the police. Once an illicit drug is no longer present, drivers will be allowed to drive prior to receiving the results of their saliva test laboratory analysis. They may also have to spend a night in the big house and get their vehicles at the impound. A place where used cars, crashed cars, and cars with violations are found.
Random roadside saliva tests for illicit drugs are mandatory. Drivers who are pulled over for a random roadside saliva test are required by law to undertake the test. Drivers who refuse to undertake the test will be committing an offence and be subject to serious penalties.

The random roadside saliva testing is aimed at making Victoria’s roads safer for everyone by reducing the incidence of drug driving. Think seriously before you drink, take drugs and drive. It may not be just a stranger’s life you may save, but yours and your family. Though cars for sale are not that difficult to find, lives that may be lost in drunk driving causing accident can never be replaced.
